Zomerfee

Zomerfee, born on the 6th of July 1981 at the barn of Johan Hiemstra and Jos Hildebrand. As a 3 year old mare she was presented at a local keuring. This turned out to be a huge deception, the judges didn’t know what to do with a such a modern type.

At the age of 4 she started competing  and showing off her jumping skills. The Vrolijk family who owned a bar (La Bastille) in Amsterdam and a riding school in Schoorl were tipped on a promising young jumper and bought her as a invesment horse. Their daughter Mirella was trained by Sven Harmsen, who himself was a successful rider. It was only a matter of time that he aboarded Zomerfee and started competing her at bigger classes. The cassette-VCR brand TDK wanted to invest in Svens success so Zomerfee was renamed into TDK Bastille. Unfortunately their success had a short run because of an injury. They competed successfully on 1.45 level. This gave her a oppertunity for a new career, broodmare.

Her first daughter, Merci was born a the Vrolijk family and came to our barn at the age of 4. Carying her second Zomerfee came to our place and stayed with us until the day she died, aged 31 years old. Leaving us behind many beautiful memories and her legacy Merci, Nimmergraaf and Rosenfee.
